Teaching Fractions through Ratio Reasoning, grades 3-6, part A

August 24 @ 8:00 am - September 14 @ 11:00 pm PDT

$100

Join our math teacher leaders to learn research-based and classroom-tested strategies for supporting students’ deep understanding of fractions through a ratio reasoning perspective. In this grade span, students learn part/whole fractions and then in 6th grade learn many other meanings represented in fraction form. These sessions will focus on fraction as division (5th grade), and ordering and comparing fractions. Applying ratio reasoning, we will build a deeper understanding of equivalent fractions, and then apply that understanding to more sensible algorithms for adding and subtracting fractions. Participants will receive a copy of “Extending Children’s Mathematics: Fractions and Decimals” by Empson and Levi.
