SUMMARY:CMP@CPP Virtual Summer Institute 2022
DESCRIPTION:WORKSHOP: PREPARING AND STAYING RESILIENT THROUGH CHANGE \nThe past two years brought sudden and unexpected changes for teachers at every level. We moved from in-person to online instruction\, and back again. And now\, as mathematics teachers\, we are preparing for a new CA Mathematics Framework. At the same time\, our students’ lives have been disrupted and it has been left to educators to engage students\, attend to equity\, socio-emotional and learning needs. How do we stay resilient through all of these changes? In this summer mathematics institute\, we will take a deep dive into specific strands (data science\, ELL\, and equity) and explore how to develop aligned K-12 tasks together. We will also spend a day with Dr. Kelly Morton of Loma Linda University\, to explore strategies for “care workers” (nurses\, teachers\, and others who did not stop working during the pandemic) to learn about maintaining resilience in the face of more change. \nOur schedule of speakers include: \nDr. William Zahner\nTopic: Mathematics & English Language Learners \nDr. Charles Wilkes\nTopic: Equity in the Mathematics Classroom \nDr. Ben Ford\nTopic: A Look at the New Mathematics Frameworks with a Focus on the Data Science Standards \nDr. Kelly Morton\nTopic: Staying Resilient as a Care Worker \nRegistration Link:\nhttps://cpp.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_e96ou8atf94lNMa \nZoom meeting link: https://cpp.zoom.us/j/85045380239\nPassword: CMP-CPP

SUMMARY:ADDITION AND SUBTRACTION of Fractions : GRADES 3-5
DESCRIPTION:In this session you will investigate the conceptual teaching of addition and subtraction\nof fractions. We will explore how and when to use common multiples and find and use\nthe greatest common factor. Additionally\, we will be linking hands-on manipulatives\nto addition and subtraction algorithms. We will utilize the CCSS Progression\nDocuments to model how to teach the beginnings of fractions through the algorithms.\nDate: June 14\, 2022 from 9am to 11am. \nRegistration Link: https://sjsu.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZUqc-Gorj8uGtT9Tj4ZRyQgWlKjZpQIriE

SUMMARY:MULTIPLICATION of Fractions GRADES 3-5
DESCRIPTION:In this session you will investigate the conceptual teaching of multiplication of\nfractions. We will explore the rectangular and area models of multiplication.\nAdditionally\, we will link models of concrete manipulatives to the multiplication\nalgorithm. SUMMARY:DIVISION of Fractions: GRADES 4-6
DESCRIPTION:In this session you will explore ways to help students conceptually understand\ndivision of fractions. We will use hands-on manipulatives and the rectangular area\nmodel of division. How does the concept relate to the algorithm? Why do we flip the\nsecond fraction when we divide? We will utilize the CCSS Progression Documents to\nmodel how to teach the beginnings of fractions through the algorithms.\nDate: June 16\, 2022 from 9am -11 am\nPresenters: Suzanne Damm & Julie Sliva- Spitzer \nhttps://sjsu.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZUqc-Gorj8uGtT9Tj4ZR-yQgWlKjZpQIriE
